A Special Message from Pastor Mast…

Anxiety and fear has gripped the heart of our country. This unprecedented event with the COVID-19 virus has created much uncertainty and concern for the health and well-being of our community. The results of this virus and the results of the precautions and measures taken will have devastating affects on families and businesses for sometime to come. I am thankful to be an American and I am thankful for the dedicated and hard work of those in positions of authority and service, working to protect us.

It is a honor to serve in the ministry here in the Dubuque area. I have been the Pastor of Old Paths Baptist Church for over 12 years and a Chaplain for the Iowa State Patrol for over 5 years. I love the people of our church and I love the people of our community.

As officials and health agencies work relentlessly to protect and preserve our health, I would like to remind you that your spiritual health is as gravely important as your physical health and more so. The Bible warns us in Matthew 16:26, “For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?” Matthew 10:28 further warns us, “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” The Soul of man requires spiritual care!

The good news is that Jesus Christ cares for the soul, the spirit, and body of all people. Jesus Christ proclaims in Matthew 11:28, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” The will of God is to give all men everlasting life. We are told in John 3:16-17, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.” The promise of God is found in Romans 10:9-10, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confessions is made unto salvation.” Romans 10:13, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

The child of God can cling to the precious promise found in Hebrews 13:5-6, “Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. So that we may boldly say, the Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.”

This is the good news of the Gospel. Jesus Christ was born of a virgin, crucified on a cross, resurrected from the dead to save man from their sins and give him everlasting life and blessings. This is the good news that Old Paths Baptist Church is committed to proclaiming.

The leadership and people of Old Paths Baptist Church are committed in Scripturally servicing the spiritual needs of our community. During this time of unrest and as you contemplate your future and the frailty of life the Bible has the answers for the questions you are asking. Please do not hesitate to contact us so we may assist you in finding spiritual help and comfort. We would be honored to aid you or your family through this crisis.

May God bless and continue to give His abundant grace and mercy!

Sincerely In Christ,
Pastor Edward R. Mast
