The Necessity of Honor
John 19:14-30
“Give honor where it is due.”
- JESUS CHRIST, THE ULTIMATE EXAMPLE OF HONORING THE AGED (vv. 14-30)
- Even in His hour of crucifixion, Jesus took the time to care for and honor His mother.
- This was more than an act of example, it was an act of love and honor for His mother.
- What does God say about the aged? (Proverbs 20:29)
- God honors the young and the old.
- The gray hairs of old men are just as important as the strength of young men.
- The glory of both the young and the old is how they are used for God.
- The young must honor the old for their experience and wisdom. The old must honor the young for their strength and energy.
- DAVID, AN EXAMPLE OF HAVING HONOR AND BEING USED BY GOD AT ALL AGES OF HIS LIFE (Psalms 71)
- David learned how to trust God and used his strength to serve God in his youth.
- David used his wisdom for God’s glory and use in his old age.
- David asked the next generation to listen and learn about the power of God from his testimony. (Psalms 145:4)
- HONORING THE AGED LIKE CHRIST HONORED HIS MOTHER (Ephesians 6:1-2, John 19:14-30)
- Take the time to really see your parents. (v. 26)
- Make your parents an important priority. (vv. 26-28)
- Speak kindly to them and about them. (vv. 26-27)
- Invest in your relationship with them. (v. 26)
- Help with their needs. (vv. 26-27)
